The Lagos Motor Boat Club was incorporated on 23rd January, 1950 at Wilmott Point when a section of the Lagos Tarpon Club broke away to form their own faction. Founded in 1938, the Lagos Tarpon Club was established for fishermen and leisure boating activity. However, the original members of the Lagos Motor Boat Club broke away from the Tarpon Club in a bid to better preserve some of the founding sentiments of the Tarpon Club that were being eroded.
